Job Description
Senior Software Engineer architecting backend services and data pipelines for Instacart’s paid marketing systems. Leading campaign execution, conversion tracking, integrations, and technical strategy.
Responsibilities:
- Lead complete projects independently across backend services, APIs, and data pipelines
- Define experimentation, development, and rollout strategies across multiple systems
- Architect scalable, reliable, and cost-efficient solutions for high-throughput marketing operations
- Identify underlying technical problems and design reusable abstractions
- Partner with Marketing and Product stakeholders to shape features, requirements, and strategy
- Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, and onboarding
- Improve team productivity through process improvements and automation
Requirements:
- 5–8 years of software engineering experience with expert-level proficiency in Python for scalable backend services, APIs, and data pipelines
- Proven track record of leading complete projects end-to-end, including architecture design, implementation, experimentation, and production rollout
- Deep expertise with Snowflake, SQL, ETL processes, Airflow, and DBT
- Experience designing for performance, scalability, and robustness
- Experience implementing observability solutions including logging, metrics, and tracing
- Strong product thinking and ability to make strategic technical and business trade-offs
- Excellent communication skills and ability to mentor engineers, drive cross-team alignment, and translate technical concepts
- Preferred: automation frameworks, ad platform APIs, digital marketing operations and KPIs, cloud cost optimization, chaos engineering, disaster recovery, technical debt modernization, security-by-design, incident response, and AI-assisted development infrastructure
