Job Description
Senior Platform Engineer building reliable cloud infrastructure for Astronomer’s Apache Airflow DataOps platform. Owning scalable testing, deployment, observability and reliability practices.
Responsibilities:
- Make data-driven and experience-driven decisions about the current and next generation production platform, then deliver the results
- Own and build code testing, building and deployment in a high-scale PaaS environment
- Collaborate across the company on production system design, standards, technology choices and product integration
- Deliver changes to production infrastructure in a predictable, safe and reliable way
- Help shape collaboration practices as part of the Platform Engineering team
- Build out the company’s Platform/Reliability practice
- Participate directly in decisions about work priorities and execution
- Participate in incident management and determine sensible platform practices
- Create and maintain comprehensive internal documentation for systems and processes
- Provide periodic on-call support for owned services
Requirements:
- Strong experience in Non-Abstract Systems design and implementation
- Strong proficiency in Python and Golang
- In-depth experience with Kubernetes (CKA or equivalent or greater)
- Experience with observability principles and technologies, including SLI/SLO definition and tracking
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience working with a globally distributed team in delivery
- Passion for reliability and operational excellence
- Ability to estimate scope accurately and coordinate with stakeholders to address risks and ensure successful project delivery
- Experience with software development best practices, including code review, testing, CI/CD, version control, automation and debugging
- Proactive approach to identifying and addressing issues, with a focus on ownership and accountability
- Bonus: Experience working on a SaaS/PaaS product across multiple cloud providers
- Bonus: Experience with CircleCI, Chronosphere (Prometheus), Splunk, Bazel, Istio, Playwright, Karpenter and GitHub Actions
- Bonus: Experience with AWS, GCP and Azure internals and quirks
- Bonus: Experience participating in an on-call rotation
