Responsibilities:
- Own the technical vision and system architecture for Perception enabling safety and efficiency as Digit expands into open, dynamic environments
- Analyze architectural tradeoffs across sensing modalities, model design, redundancy, and compute budget while balancing safety, latency, and robustness
- Stay hands-on by prototyping, validating, or building critical system components
- Partner with functional safety and systems engineering to define safety-case strategy and required evidence
- Support system-level failure mode and hazard analysis
- Evaluate emerging research and technology for adoption into future robot architectures
- Set verification and validation standards for ML-based perception systems, especially rare and safety-critical scenarios
- Collaborate with navigation, controls, and hardware teams
- Mentor engineers and technical leads
- Represent the architecture to executive leadership, partners, and customers as needed
