Job Description

Senior Technical Services Officer leading classification and EXAP documentation for construction products. Supporting safer buildings through UKTC’s testing and certification services.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead complex classification and EXAP projects from initial scope review through final technical documentation
  • Prepare classifications, EXAP reports, and hardware performance sheets to relevant standards with clear evidence trails
  • Guide manufacturers on product range definition, evidence requirements, test planning, and scope analysis
  • Provide expert technical advice on testing, classification, and field-of-application requirements
  • Interpret test data and apply objective, proportionate judgement to complex product scenarios
  • Operate as a recognised specialist across doors, walls, floors, service installations, linear joint seals, fire-resistant glazing systems, and smoke control dampers
  • Peer review highly technical documentation for accuracy and rigour
  • Mentor fire resistance and technical services colleagues
  • Build trusted client relationships and represent UKTC at industry events and trade association meetings

Requirements:

  • Degree or HNC-level qualification in physics, engineering, or a relevant scientific discipline, or equivalent professional experience
  • 5+ years' established track record in fire resistance, passive fire protection, construction-product testing, technical assessment, or manufacture
  • Ability to independently prepare and peer review classification, EXAP, and related technical performance documentation
  • Detailed working knowledge of BS EN 1363-1, BS EN 1634-1, BS EN 1634-3, BS EN 1364-1, BS EN 1365-1, and BS 476: Part 22
  • Strong working knowledge of BS EN 15269-1, BS EN 15725, and BS EN 13501-2
  • Thorough experience within a UKAS-accredited or equivalent ISO/IEC 17025 environment
  • Sound understanding of responsibilities under the UK Construction Products Regulation
  • Strong practical construction knowledge and understanding of specimen installation and construction-process risks
  • Advanced capability in data interpretation, technical writing, and communicating conclusions to specialist and non-specialist audiences
  • High-level customer liaison and account-management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
