Job Description
Software Engineer owning PayBox, MoonPay’s AI-native payment product. Building payment experiences, AI-platform integrations, and end-to-end product infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
- Own significant areas of PayBox end-to-end, from problem identification and approach definition through production iteration
- Take the recently launched PayBox product through its next phase of 0→1 development and growth
- Build payment and peer-to-peer transfer experiences designed for AI interfaces
- Build integrations across AI platforms, applications, and the PayBox ecosystem
- Develop infrastructure and product experiences for onboarding new applications and integrations
- Collaborate closely with Product to turn ambitious ideas into simple, usable experiences
- Improve PayBox onboarding and UX and remove user friction
- Reason from first principles about difficult technical and product problems
- Make pragmatic decisions without waiting for perfect information
- Move across the product and technical stack according to the highest-impact problem
- Use AI extensively to increase speed and output while maintaining technical judgment and attention to detail
- Work closely with the Chief Engineer and a small, highly focused team
Requirements:
- Exceptional technical reasoning and strong engineering fundamentals
- Ability to break down unfamiliar, ambiguous problems and reason toward good solutions
- High agency and willingness to identify important problems and take responsibility for solving them
- Experience building and shipping meaningful products, projects or systems end-to-end
- Thoroughness and strong attention to detail
- Strong systems thinking, including system design, technical trade-offs, and architectural decisions
- Product judgment encompassing the user experience around technology
- Comfort with ambiguity and changing priorities
- Independent thinking in an AI-native environment; ability to use AI while retaining technical reasoning and accountability
- Deep motivation for ownership, responsibility, and product outcomes
- Nice-to-have: experience as a founding or early engineer at a high-growth startup
- Nice-to-have: experience founding and building a company or product
- Nice-to-have: experience taking a product from idea through launch and iteration
- Nice-to-have: experience in small, highly autonomous engineering teams
- Bonus: experience building AI-native products, agents, or developer tooling
- Bonus: experience with payments, fintech, crypto, or DeFi
- Bonus: previous experience with MCP or other emerging agent protocols
- Crypto or MCP experience is not required; bonus points are explicitly not prerequisites
