Job Description
Software Engineer I building secure, scalable backend platforms for Carousell’s secondhand marketplace. Developing microservices, AI-assisted tooling, and high-availability services.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain the core backend platform, including microservice frameworks, libraries, asynchronous inter-service communication, and media handling
- Proactively work with engineering teams to identify gaps and address them
- Communicate gaps and solutions effectively with stakeholders
- Propose and implement solutions
- Ensure high availability and application security of services
- Set high standards of engineering design and code quality
- Utilize AI agents to automate repetitive coding tasks and generate comprehensive test suites
- Employ AI-powered tools for code analysis and vulnerability detection
- Integrate AI-driven insights into performance monitoring to identify and address potential bottlenecks
Requirements:
- 2+ years of experience in software engineering, with relevant experience in platform or product engineering
- Experience with microservice architecture and exposure to consumer scale systems
- Strong knowledge of modern technologies and hands-on coding experience with Go, C++, Python, or Java
- Experience working in a cloud environment and strong knowledge of engineering fundamentals
- Ability to speak and write succinctly and clearly
- Customer obsession and empathy
- Willingness to learn new technologies and build expertise as needed

- Drive and resourcefulness to persevere and overcome obstacles while achieving challenging goals
- Track record of successfully solving problems with quality and speed

- Good to have: exposure to Kubernetes and service mesh architecture
- Good to have: experience with gRPC and protobuf
- Good to have: experience with Cassandra, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, Kafka, and Backstage
