Job Description

Software Engineer building Go backend services for Pod, a UK EV charging provider. Processing high-throughput charging-station messages and supporting reliable, secure connectivity infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and ship backend services in Go that process messages from the charging network
  • Own well-defined projects from design through production
  • Write maintainable code, create automated tests, and produce clear documentation
  • Work within existing systems and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Participate in code reviews, pairing, and knowledge sharing
  • Support new joiners and less experienced engineers
  • Contribute to sprint planning, scoping, estimation, kick-offs, and reviews
  • Shape technical solutions, identify risks, and suggest improvements
  • Monitor system health through dashboards, alerts, and support channels
  • Investigate issues, improve operations, and automate manual processes
  • Use AI tools thoughtfully to improve productivity and software delivery
  • Work with the manager on technical development, broader impact, and career progression

Requirements:

  • Experience building and operating backend services in a statically typed, compiled language in a commercial or comparable environment
  • Go experience highly desirable; strong Java, C#, Kotlin, Rust, or C++ experience equally valuable
  • Willingness to work with idiomatic Go and embrace its patterns and principles
  • Practical experience with modern cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS
  • Familiarity with databases, containerisation, event-driven architectures, Pub/Sub systems, queue-based processing, virtual networking, and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform
  • Understanding of version control and pull request workflows
  • Knowledge of automated testing strategies
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines
  • Secure software development practices
  • Ability to write maintainable and supportable code
  • Ability to break complex problems into manageable components and deliver independently
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to discuss trade-offs, listen to different perspectives, and adapt approaches
