Job Description
Software Quality Operations Specialist improving Waymo’s autonomous driving safety through ML and Gen-AI tools. Developing quality controls, triage strategies, and operational SOPs for scalable autonomous vehicle deployment.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with Engineering to design, test, and deploy Machine Learning and Generative AI models and tools
- Use AI-powered insights and traditional triage signals to identify emerging on-road issue trends, risk scenarios, and edge cases
- Develop and refine data-driven issue discovery and monitoring strategies
- Define and document policies, guidelines, and Standard Operating Procedures integrating AI tools into vendor workflows
- Design and implement quality control processes for human- and AI-generated outputs
- Perform meta-quality checks and validate vendor work
- Provide feedback to improve human and model performance
- Serve as the Software Quality Operations subject matter expert for stakeholders, program leads, and vendor teams
- Create and update technical policies, guidelines, and SOPs for new scopes, platforms, and driving signals
- Provide technical leadership and consultation to improve workflows and quality
- Identify and escalate tooling issues, provide technical requirements to Engineering, and drive user testing for new tooling features
Requirements:
- BS/BA degree or 4 years of relevant work experience in AV Software Quality Operations
- Increased competency in supporting all phases of the machine learning development lifecycle, from data preparation and training to validation, deployment, and continuous monitoring
- Experience with ML testing and validation, including dataset quality assurance, bias detection, edge-case scenario testing, and performance evaluation using statistical metrics
- Ability to quickly learn and implement new concepts and utilize proprietary tools
- Strong understanding of driving rules and regulations
- Ability to provide occasional on-call availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Flexibility to attend meetings outside standard hours to collaborate with the global team
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment while maintaining good judgment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Preferred: experience working with offshore teams or multiple local operations hubs
- Preferred: basic SQL querying
- Preferred: competency in LLM/transformer models and/or ML for robotics
