Job Description
Staff Engineer owning PayBox, MoonPay’s AI-connected payments product. Building payment experiences, integrations, and infrastructure for crypto and digital value movement.
Responsibilities:
- Own significant areas of PayBox end-to-end, from problem identification and approach definition through production iteration
- Take a recently launched product through its next phase of 0→1 development and growth
- Build payment and peer-to-peer transfer experiences for AI interfaces
- Build integrations across AI platforms, applications, and the PayBox ecosystem
- Develop infrastructure and product experiences for new applications and integrations
- Collaborate with Product to turn ambitious ideas into usable experiences
- Improve PayBox onboarding and UX and remove user friction
- Reason from first principles about difficult technical and product problems
- Move across the product and technical stack based on highest-impact problems
- Use AI extensively while maintaining technical reasoning, judgment, and attention to detail
- Work closely with the Chief Engineer and a small, focused team
Requirements:
- Exceptional technical reasoning and strong engineering fundamentals
- Ability to break down unfamiliar, ambiguous problems and reason toward solutions
- High agency and ownership of problem identification and resolution
- Experience building and shipping meaningful products, projects, or systems end-to-end
- Thoroughness and strong attention to detail
- Strong systems thinking and ability to make architectural decisions
- Product judgment
- Comfort with ambiguity and changing priorities
- Independent thinking in an AI-native environment
- Extensive, accountable use of AI tools
- Deep motivation for ownership and product outcomes
- Nice-to-have: experience as a founding or early engineer at a high-growth startup
- Nice-to-have: experience founding and building a company or product
- Nice-to-have: experience taking a product from idea through launch and iteration
- Nice-to-have: experience in small, highly autonomous engineering teams
- Bonus: experience building AI-native products, agents, or developer tooling
- Bonus: experience with payments, fintech, crypto, or DeFi
- Bonus: previous experience with MCP or other emerging agent protocols
- No specific technology stack, domain background, crypto experience, or MCP experience is required
