Job Description
Staff Engineer directing Neumo's AI-assisted modernization of government revenue and debt-recovery software. Owning architecture, partner delivery, acceptance, and knowledge transfer for public-sector systems.
Responsibilities:
- Own the target architecture and modernization build strategy for a legacy .NET revenue and debt-recovery platform
- Define specifications, architecture, sequencing, and acceptance criteria for an external delivery partner
- Direct the partner's agentic build process, including scope, order of work, acceptance, merge gates, and escalation
- Review generated code for maintainability and manage specification drift, blueprint coherence, regeneration, and test limitations
- Establish equivalence evidence for money-related functionality and rule on divergences
- Decide which legacy components are reused, rebuilt, or deliberately left unchanged
- Run the delivery relationship, including cadence, gates, commercial and technical discussions, and quality standards
- Ensure Neumo can build, deploy, operate, and modify the delivered system independently of the partner
- Build internal engineers' capability in the new system and own enduring documentation and operational runbooks
- Translate build status, risks, assumptions, and decisions for executives
- Represent Neumo's technical position with partners, customers, and procurement
- Deliver a system ready for pilot within 90–120 days, with statutory and financial behavior evidenced, accessibility gates passed, and knowledge transferred
Requirements:
- 12+ years building and operating production software, including significant time at staff or principal level
- Real depth in agentic or AI-assisted software delivery at production scale; shipped systems this way
- Demonstrated ownership of architecture for large, multi-team systems
- Experience directing external delivery partners, consultancies, or systems integrators
- Experience with scope definition, acceptance criteria, and delivery oversight
- Track record of incremental legacy modernization, including strangler patterns, coexistence, live data migration, and cutovers with no tolerance for loss
- Deep relational database experience
- Comfort with .NET and a modern web stack
- Exceptional written communication
- Judgement to distinguish acceptable divergences from blockers, particularly in financial calculation
- Comfort operating with authority over an external team and without authority over colleagues
- Proven effectiveness in a remote, distributed organization
