Job Description
Staff Platform Engineer building automated platforms, test tooling, and cloud infrastructure for Focus’s civic-tech government projects. Improving delivery, reliability, observability, and compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Design, evolve, and govern internal enterprise platforms that accelerate delivery, deployment safety, and operational reliability
- Drive enterprise observability, automated CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, and compliance automation
- Reduce operational toil and standardize environment configurations across vendors and integrated business applications
- Architect, build, and maintain scalable end-to-end automated UI and API test suites using Playwright and TypeScript
- Develop automated data generation tools and synthetic applicant profile generators using Python and REST APIs
- Build front-end tools in React and TypeScript for vendors and government stakeholders to generate test scenarios and monitor pipeline status
- Construct, maintain, and optimize CI/CD pipelines with quality gates and feature-driven promotion practices
- Build reusable engineering patterns, self-service platform capabilities, CLI utilities, and starter kits
- Conduct code reviews and provide 1:1 mentorship
- Serve as a technical liaison to client leads and external vendor teams
- Support cloud infrastructure updates using Terraform
- Embed automated security scanning and navigate continuous compliance in a FedRAMP/Public Trust environment
- Collaborate on systems supporting tens of millions of American students and borrowers
Requirements:
- 10+ years of professional experience developing full-stack applications and tooling using TypeScript and Python
- Practical experience writing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform
- Experience designing complex systems interacting with external services, databases, and third-party APIs
- Experience working on cross-functional agile teams
- Experience estimating complex engineering tasks
- Experience communicating technical updates directly to client stakeholders
- Strong diagnostic skills for complex, distributed multi-vendor application failures and microservices
- Prior experience on federal government digital service projects or civic tech programs
- Familiarity with AWS GovCloud environments
- Familiarity with FedRAMP compliance standards
- Familiarity with observability tooling
- Experience implementing synthetic test data generators or complex mock data services for enterprise integrations
- Legal authorization to work in the United States
- Ability to meet other requirements for government contracts
- Work authorization that does not require visa sponsorship now or in the future
- May be subject to a government background check or security clearance
- Must be based in the continental United States
