Job Description
Supervisor providing hands-on software engineering leadership for Avalon’s healthcare diagnostics intelligence platform. Guiding teams delivering secure, scalable products and improving clinical outcomes.
Responsibilities:
- Provide hands-on technical contribution and day-to-day leadership for the design, development, delivery, operation, and support of Avalon’s software products and services
- Contribute to code, architecture, and design decisions
- Resolve technical problems, issues, and escalations within the development team
- Stay current with technology trends and foster continuous learning
- Mentor, coach, and support career development for team members
- Create growth opportunities through stretch projects, skill-building, and exposure to new technologies
- Collaborate with product teams, architects, stakeholders, and senior leaders on product requirements and roadmaps
- Conduct regular one-on-one meetings and performance evaluations
- Facilitate successful completion of projects and initiatives
- Maintain current industry and organizational knowledge through self-study and training
- Identify staffing needs, participate in recruitment, and provide input into hiring decisions
- Foster accountability, continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence
Requirements:
- 2+ years in a technical leadership role
- Applicable Bachelor’s Degree or 10+ years direct, relevant experience in lieu of a degree
- Experience with IT Engineering, Quality Assurance, and automation best practices
- Experience in a continuous improvement environment with a track record of achieving significant continual development
- Strong project management, problem solving, organizational, relationship, communication, and negotiation skills (oral and written)
- Ability to work in a fast paced, Agile (SAFe, Scrum and Kanban) environment
- Strong understanding of IT strategy and how it relates to business objectives
- Must be an effective oral and written communicator
- Prior hands-on experience in a technical lead or senior engineering role required
- Experience with agentic AI tools and their application in software engineering
- Prior insurance or healthcare background preferred
- Familiarity with healthcare data exchange, clinical workflows, and integration architectures preferred
- Good understanding of AWS (Amazon Web Services) services preferred
- Experience working with employees and contractors remotely preferred
- Ability to work with offshore engineers preferred
- Previous experience in an early-stage growth company helpful
- Hands-on experience with proof-of-concept (POC) development preferred
