Job Description
Technical UI Artist building polished, performant AAA game interfaces in Unreal Engine. Creating UMG materials, shaders, animations, effects, and in-engine visual systems.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with UX Design, Technical UI Design, UI Art, and Engineering to create AAA-quality user interfaces
- Turn wireframes and UX concepts into polished visual designs and working in-engine UI
- Create and maintain design systems, menus, HUD elements, iconography, UI materials, shaders, animation, and motion design
- Build and implement UI art directly in Unreal Engine using UMG
- Create material and shader effects for UI
- Create UI animations, transitions, 2D effects, and other real-time visual treatments
- Implement basic Blueprint logic to support UI presentation
- Investigate visual, performance, and implementation problems and work with technical partners to resolve them
- Optimize UI assets and effects for runtime performance
- Rapidly modify work as requirements and feature designs evolve
- Help maintain visual consistency and quality across the broader UI/UX experience
Requirements:
- Professional Unreal Engine and UMG experience; Unreal experience is required
- Strong portfolio demonstrating high-quality UI visual design and implementation
- Experience creating UI from concept through final in-engine implementation
- Strong skills with Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, or comparable visual design tools
- Strong experience creating UI materials and shaders for real-time applications
- Experience with motion design, UI animation, visual effects, or interaction design
- Strong understanding of layout, composition, hierarchy, typography, and visual communication
- Ability to work autonomously on complex UI features while collaborating effectively across disciplines
- Experience working within technical constraints and adapting visual designs as implementation requirements change
- Strong player empathy and understanding of how visual decisions affect usability
- Preferred: experience optimizing and debugging real-time UI
- Preferred: experience with shader logic and technically complex material effects
- Preferred: mathematical foundation for shader and motion work, including vector math, transforms, interpolation, and matrices
- Preferred: experience designing responsive interfaces across varying resolutions, aspect ratios, or device types
- Preferred: mobile UI experience
- Frontend web development experience such as HTML, CSS, or JavaScript is not a core qualification
