Job Description

AI Integration Lead evaluating and deploying reliable AI tools across Rethink Priorities’ human- and animal-focused research and operations. Building workflows, measuring impact, and guiding safe organizational adoption.

Responsibilities:

  • Own Rethink Priorities’ strategy for using AI across the organization
  • Propose and prioritize AI investments and set organizational direction
  • Design and run rigorous, decision-relevant evaluations of AI tools and workflows
  • Measure AI’s effects on quality, speed, and reliability
  • Determine which AI tasks can be trusted and which cannot
  • Build and prototype agentic tooling, plugins, MCP integrations, and lightweight internal tools
  • Partner with researchers and operational staff to understand workflows and identify high-value AI use cases
  • Embed effective AI tools and workflows into day-to-day practice
  • Translate evaluation results into guidance, policy, and training
  • Improve the organization’s overall AI fluency
  • Assess cybersecurity, data protection, and legal-compliance risks from AI tool use
  • Document recommendations for safe AI-tool handling
  • Monitor the fast-moving AI field and keep Rethink Priorities’ approach evidence-led
  • Report to Principal Research Director David Moss

Requirements:

  • Genuine strength in both rigorous research judgment and technical fluency, with balance able to tilt toward either area
  • Ability to design fair, decision-relevant tests and change direction based on results
  • Hands-on familiarity with modern AI tooling
  • Comfort with agentic coding tools such as Claude Code
  • Ability to build plugins and MCP integrations
  • Ability to write scripts to extract capability from AI systems and evaluate them properly
  • Self-directed, experimental disposition
  • Comfortable owning an ambiguous, fast-evolving mandate without a playbook
  • Familiarity with effective-altruism-style research and Rethink Priorities’ priorities
  • Comfort working in a fully remote, globally distributed senior role
  • Professional-level English required

  • Nice-to-have: prior experience in AI enablement, evaluation, or applied AI/ML
  • Nice-to-have: software engineering background or track record of building internal tools
  • Nice-to-have: direct experience in animal welfare, AI safety and strategy, global health and wellbeing, or general cause prioritization
