Job Description

Area Accountant managing financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting, audits, and compliance. Supporting Republic Services’ recycling, waste, and environmental services operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Compile and analyze financial information to prepare journal entries and document business transactions.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly operational performance reports.
  • Assist the Area Controller with internal controls, company policies, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and statutory requirements.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and statistical data and analyze financial statements according to GAAP and company policy.
  • Assist with management of accounting personnel and provide direction to accounting functional areas.
  • Support annual budgeting and interim forecasting processes and assist with analytical review.
  • Support accounting aspects of capital expenditures, transfers and retirements.
  • Assist with internal audits, external audits and peer reviews.
  • Respond to information requests from corporate departments, regional management and area field financial management.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.

Requirements:

  • Accounting experience.
  • A thorough knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Intermediate-level MS Excel skills.
  • Ability to research and follow up on non-standard situations to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Effective and professional interpersonal communication across various organizational levels and with external customers and vendors.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to complete projects and assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work effectively, cooperatively and efficiently within a team environment.
  • Experience with general ledger software and other industry-standard programs.
  • Experience with Oracle accounting software and other industry-standard programs.
