Job Description
AVP overseeing reserve, reinsurance settlement, and operational accounting for Fortitude Re, a global legacy reinsurance provider. Ensuring ledger integrity, controls, reconciliations, and process improvement.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee reserve and reinsurance settlement accounting processes across all legal entities and reporting bases
- Oversee monthly journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations, including EBS balances
- Oversee accounting and journal entries for reinsurance settlements and reserves in collaboration with Reinsurance Operations and Actuarial
- Review and validate data inputs used for settlement and reserve accounting
- Manage daily and month-end cash activity accounting
- Prepare entries for Sidecar transactions/balances and Modco payables
- Oversee operational accounting activities including R2R, accounts payable, accounts receivable, travel and expense, TPA, corporate expenses, debt, and fixed assets
- Ensure compliance with internal policies for intercompany allocations and settlements
- Manage quarterly ledger feeds, new account setups, and legal entity allocations
- Execute internal controls, account reconciliations, and variance resolution
- Identify improvements in ledger feed processing, reserve automation, and system integration
- Contribute to quarterly close coordination and ledger integrity reviews
- Coordinate with the offshore team to monitor deliverables and resolve issues
- Implement process improvements through standardization, automation, and documentation
- Prepare supporting schedules and address audit requests
- Collaborate with analytics to align ledger inputs with analytic outputs
- Coach and mentor senior associates and analysts
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CA designation preferred
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience within the Life & Annuity (re)insurance industry, public accounting, or audit
- Strong working knowledge of US GAAP, US STAT, SFS, and EBS accounting principles and reporting requirements
- Experience with legal entity accounting, intercompany transactions, reserves, reinsurance, expense accounting, and/or financial analytics
- Ability to execute and maintain internal controls, reconciliations, and ledger accuracy
- Experience preparing or reviewing journal entries and fluctuation analyses
- Exposure to internal and external audits and ability to respond to audit queries with clarity and documentation
- Strong Excel skills
- Experience with ERP and accounting systems such as SAP and Workday
- Experience with reporting platforms such as Coupa, Workiva, Power BI, or equivalent
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and written communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure, manage deadlines, and handle shifting priorities
- Ability to collaborate across Actuarial, Reinsurance Ops., Treasury, FP&A, and external partners
- Leadership experience mentoring or managing staff and fostering a collaborative, results-driven culture
