Job Description
Bodily injury defense attorney representing UAIS, a privately held auto insurer, in Texas claims litigation. Managing cases, legal research, negotiations, and trials.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and litigate Bodily Injury and some Property Damage claims, including first-party property claims, subrogation, and bad faith litigation
- Represent the company in all phases of litigation, from pre-suit investigations to trial and post-trial activities
- Develop case strategies and draft pleadings, motions, discovery, briefs, memoranda, and opinions
- Attend depositions, mediations, hearings, trials, arbitrations, and settlement conferences
- Provide expert legal advice to the claims department, management, and other internal teams
- Ensure claims-process actions comply with applicable laws and regulations
- Advise on legal risk related to policy interpretations, claims settlements, and potential exposure
- Negotiate settlements on behalf of the company in a timely and cost-effective manner
- Conduct legal research on Texas property damage and insurance laws, regulations, court decisions, and statutory developments
- Assist in developing policies and procedures to minimize legal exposure and maximize operational efficiency
- Collaborate with claims personnel, adjusters, and legal teams to provide proactive legal support
- Communicate complex legal concepts and strategies to non-legal personnel
Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Admission to the Texas Bar and good standing
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in personal injury law, focused on automobile accidents
- Strong understanding of insurance laws and regulations
- Ability to analyze complex legal issues and develop effective strategies
- Proficiency in legal research tools and case management software
- Strong litigation experience and trial skills preferred
- Excellent negotiation, oral advocacy, and legal writing skills
- Ability to handle a high volume of cases and prioritize effectively
- Proficiency in case management software, legal research tools, and Microsoft Office
- Demonstrated proficiency in legal technology and digital litigation tools
- Advanced proficiency in case management systems, electronic document management platforms, and legal research databases such as Westlaw and LexisNexis
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is highly desirable
- Applicants must be located in the Texas Market
- Ability to travel up to 20% to Houston
