Job Description

Inpatient medical coder assigning ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes for Children’s pediatric hospital encounters. Reviewing records, abstracting data, and resolving missing documentation.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate and timely assignment of ICD-10 diagnostic and PCS procedural codes on medical records for inpatient hospital encounters
  • Review medical records, identify diagnoses and procedures, and assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis and ICD-10-PCS procedure codes
  • Abstract diagnostic and PCS procedural codes and other pertinent data into the network system
  • Review and monitor assigned work queues and missing-documentation encounters
  • Code and abstract missed accounts
  • Provide information on specific problem accounts to the Coding Supervisor
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • 3 years of experience in a hospital inpatient setting
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of one certification: Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, coding guidelines, and computers
  • Demonstrated attention to detail
  • Problem-solving skills related to coding
