Job Description
Remote Savista coding specialist reviewing infectious disease, rheumatology, and endocrinology documentation. Assigning compliant ICD-10 and CPT/HCPCS codes for healthcare revenue cycle services.
Responsibilities:
- Review clinical documentation and assign and sequence diagnostic and procedural codes for designated patient types
- Validate APC calculations to accurately capture documented diagnoses and procedures for hospitals
- Review and assess documentation for accurate abstraction of clinical data and regulatory and compliance requirements
- Abstract clinical data to support diagnoses, procedures, and discharge disposition
- Complete assigned work functions using appropriate resources
- Act as a resource for client staff regarding data integrity, clarification, and compliant coding practices, including provider queries
- Maintain patient and provider confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA guidelines
- Participate in client and Savista staff meetings, trainings, and conference calls
- Maintain current knowledge of ICD-10, CPT/HCPCS, coding guidelines, government regulations, protocols, and third-party requirements
- Participate in continuing education activities to enhance knowledge, skills, and maintain current credentials
Requirements:
- Must successfully pass pre-employment skills assessment
- Active AHIMA credential, including RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCA, or active AAPC credential including COC, CCS-P, CPC, or related specialty credential
- Two years of recent and relevant hands-on coding experience in profee multispecialty infectious disease, rheumatology & endocrinology
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, pathophysiology, ICD-10, and CPT/HCPCS code sets
- Ability to consistently code at 95% threshold for quality while maintaining client-specific and/or Savista production and/or quality standards
- Proficient computer knowledge including MS Office, Outlook, Word, and Excel; ability to enter data, sort, and filter Excel files
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills with internal and external customers
- Recent and relevant experience in an active production coding environment strongly preferred
- Associate degree in HIM or healthcare-related field, or equivalent education and experience, preferred
- Experience using Rcx, Cerner, or NextGen is a plus
