Job Description

Cost Estimator leading conceptual and detailed capital-project estimates for Georgia-Pacific, a paper and manufacturing company. Validating costs, managing risks, and improving project cost intelligence.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the overall estimating process across projects, including estimating kickoff and alignment meetings
  • Perform conceptual or detailed bottom-up estimates and/or manage partner estimating teams
  • Conduct estimate reviews and cost/quantity validations
  • Partner with preferred engineering and construction firms to develop project cost estimates
  • Prepare conceptual estimates when design information is limited
  • Develop detailed bottom-up estimates for project authorization
  • Identify risks and value-improvement opportunities
  • Assess estimate quality and validate estimates against internal and external data
  • Review and challenge change orders during construction
  • Benchmark actual project costs after completion to improve future estimating
  • Collaborate with project teams and preferred construction and engineering partners
  • Ensure estimating structures align with project work breakdown structures
  • Communicate risks and improvement opportunities to reviewers
  • Monitor and analyze project costs and work with project teams to control and improve cost outcomes

Requirements:

  • Ten or more years of project estimating experience in the industrial, chemical, oil and gas, or related industries
  • Robust understanding of cost build ups, engineering documents, blueprints, and other deliverables that influence estimates
  • Ability to assess estimating methodologies that impact estimate quality
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and team-oriented environment
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Expertise with data management / historical cost tool development preferred
  • Degree in construction management / building science preferred
  • Background in construction and/or project management preferred
  • Expertise in estimating process piping and/or electrical costs preferred
  • Expertise in the pulp and paper industry preferred
  • AACEI certification as a Certified Cost Professional (CCP) preferred
  • EcoSys software experience preferred
  • Qlik software experience preferred
  • Successful completion of a drug test may be required where permitted by state law
