Job Description

Senior Design Engineer leading commercial electronic security system projects from concept through construction administration. Developing ESS designs, drawings, BOMs, and technical solutions while mentoring engineering teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as lead engineer on commercial Electronic Security Systems (ESS) design projects across the project lifecycle, from sales concepts through design development, construction documentation, and construction administration
  • Collaborate with clients, Design Engineering, Solutions Architects, the Director of Engineering, vendors, and cross-functional teams
  • Develop project specifications, designs, budgets, timelines, and expectations for complex engagements
  • Conceptualize system designs and determine system requirements
  • Lead and support drafting/modeling of security floor layouts for access control, video, intrusion, vehicle gate systems, wiring diagrams, schematics, and back board layouts
  • Develop Bills of Materials (BOMs) and supporting documentation for customer RFPs
  • Produce 30%, 60%, 90%, 100% IFC, and/or shop drawings using AutoCAD and Revit
  • Research, identify, and recommend technology options for clients
  • Perform quality control by reviewing drawings and recommending design changes
  • Ensure drawings meet scope, schedule, and quality requirements
  • Contribute to client interaction, P&L performance, and long-lasting client partnerships
  • Maintain expertise through industry publications, trade shows, seminars, trainings, and educational forums
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to Design Engineers and Associate Design Engineers
  • Represent ESS Engineering in enterprise-wide initiatives and strategic discussions concerning delivery, quality, and customer satisfaction
  • Travel to active job sites and provide guidance to supportive and junior roles throughout project lifecycles, including onsite new-hire trainings

Requirements:

  • Associates Degree or equivalent experience
  • 5-7+ years of experience in ESS systems design, integration, or engineering required
  • 2+ years of team leadership or engineering management experience
  • Proven experience leading engineering efforts in access control, video surveillance, and intrusion detection systems
  • Strong understanding of system integration, project engineering processes, and field-to-office feedback loops
  • Skilled in process improvement methodologies, technical governance, and cross-functional coordination
  • Effective communication with internal teams, vendors, and executive stakeholders
  • Ability to interpret performance data, identify trends, and drive strategic improvements
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and lead engineering teams
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and coordinating enterprise-level technology training
  • Strong organizational and time management skills focused on operational efficiency and documentation quality
  • Familiarity with Lenel, CCure, Honeywell, Brivo, Milestone, ExacqVision, Eagle Eye, Axis, and Hanwha
  • Experience with enterprise-level networking and IP-based ESS system architecture
  • Experience with AutoCAD, BIM, and Revit
  • Experience managing multi-discipline technical teams and supporting regional or enterprise-scale project delivery
  • Industry certifications in access control or video surveillance are a plus
