Job Description
DFM Engineer Intern working on mechanical designs for Trustbridge Engineering at Vulcury LLC. Gain practical experience in manufacturing-focused engineering during a 12-week paid internship.
Responsibilities:
- Design for Manufacturing (DFM)
- Review and develop mechanical designs with a focus on manufacturability
- Apply DFM/DFA principles to improve part design, cost efficiency, and quality
- Assist in refining designs based on manufacturing constraints and feedback
- Prepare clear, production-ready engineering documentation
- Support basic simulations or engineering checks using ANSYS or similar tools
- Assist with tolerance analysis, material selection, and design assumptions
- Help identify design risks and recommend improvements
- Research and evaluate manufacturing processes (CNC machining, sheet metal, casting, molding, etc.)
- Support decisions related to materials, finishes, and processes
- Assist with supplier- and process-related research when required
- Work closely with senior engineers on real client problems
- Participate in virtual meetings with U.S.-based clients and internal teams
- Communicate design intent, changes, and assumptions clearly in a remote setup
- Contribute to improving internal engineering workflows and standards
Requirements:
- Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Strong fundamentals in mechanical design and manufacturing processes
- Basic understanding of DFM concepts and real-world production constraints
- Experience with 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, AutoCAD, or similar)
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Good written and spoken English for professional collaboration
- Personal computer capable of running engineering software
- Required CAD / simulation software installed
- Reliable internet connection
