Job Description
Director of Accounting leading GAAP reporting, controls, audits, and accounting teams. Supporting Sonsio’s vehicle protection services through scalable financial operations and analysis.
Responsibilities:
- Lead preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and company policies
- Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, revenue recognition, and complex accounting functions
- Manage annual external audits and serve as primary contact with external auditors
- Analyze financial results, trends, and variances and communicate insights to the VP of Finance
- Maintain and update accounting policies and procedures, including implementation of new accounting standards
- Design, implement, and maintain effective internal controls
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and industry-specific regulations
- Identify financial and operational risks and recommend mitigation strategies
- Partner with the VP of Finance on budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning
- Monitor performance against budget and forecast
- Provide ad hoc financial analysis and modeling
- Partner with operational, sales, regulatory, compliance, IT, and other functional leaders
- Collaborate with risk management and actuarial resources on risk reporting, program and pricing reviews, and underwriter relationships
- Lead accounting process improvements, system enhancements, and automation initiatives
- Support financial systems implementations and upgrades
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team
- Establish goals and expectations aligned with organizational priorities
- Foster a collaborative, high-accountability culture
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- CPA required
- MBA preferred
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 7 years in a people leadership role
- Strong experience with GAAP, internal controls, and financial systems in a complex or regulated environment
- Proven accounting leadership and people development capability
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication and cross-functional partnership skills
- High integrity, sound judgment, and exceptional attention to detail
- Continuous viewing from and inputting data to a computer screen
- Travel as necessary (<10%)
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screening before beginning work
