Job Description
Director leading Capital One’s AI infrastructure and optimization systems. Building responsible, scalable AI capabilities that transform customer and associate banking experiences.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with engineers, research scientists, technical program managers, and product managers to deliver AI-powered products
- Oversee design, development, testing, deployment, and support of AI software components, including foundation model training, large language model inference, similarity search, guardrails, model evaluation, experimentation, governance, and observability
- Make build-versus-buy decisions across open-source and SaaS AI technologies
- Invent and introduce state-of-the-art LLM optimization techniques to improve scalability, cost, latency, and throughput of large-scale production AI systems
- Contribute to the technical vision and long-term roadmap of foundational AI systems
- Attract and retain AI talent and nurture team members' personal and professional development
- Mentor and coach team members and foster a culture of learning and staying current with AI developments
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or AI plus at least 8 years of experience developing or leading AI and ML algorithms or technologies, or Master's degree plus at least 6 years of such experience
- At least 3 years of people leadership experience
- Preferred: 5 years of experience managing and leading an engineering team
- Preferred: 7 years of experience deploying scalable and responsible AI solutions on cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, or equivalent private cloud
- Preferred: Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or relevant technical field
- Passion for staying up to date with the latest AI research and AI systems and applying novel techniques in production
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex AI concepts to peers
- Strong foundation in engineering and mathematics
- Expertise in hardware, software, and AI
