Job Description
Director leading Smartsheet’s finance systems and ERP engineering. Driving ERP modernization, billing transformation, data architecture, and AI-enabled SaaS monetization.
Responsibilities:
- Own the technical strategy and long-term architecture for Smartsheet’s financial systems ecosystem across ERP, procurement, financial planning, payments, billing, tax, revenue processes, integrations, data, automation, and AI
- Lead, coach, and develop the Financial Systems Engineering organization
- Serve as senior technology leader for NetSuite and ERP
- Provide technology leadership for ERP reimplementation and modernization programs
- Translate product strategy and business priorities into technical roadmaps, architecture, investment decisions, and engineering plans
- Shape architecture for subscription, multi-year, usage-based, consumption-based, and AI-related pricing and billing models
- Establish system-of-record boundaries across CRM, product, billing, ERP, payments, tax, planning, and data platforms
- Define Finance systems data strategy, including data models, contracts, quality, lineage, reconciliation, and historical integrity
- Partner with Data Engineering and Analytics to integrate Financial Systems with the enterprise data lake
- Improve data quality and observability across Quote-to-Cash and Finance workflows
- Establish an AI strategy and evaluate AI-assisted and agentic capabilities for Financial Systems Engineering
- Develop automated testing and quality engineering across the Finance technology stack
- Establish modern engineering practices including source control, peer review, CI/CD, environment management, testing, observability, documentation, release engineering, and operational readiness
- Determine appropriate boundaries between SaaS configuration, extensibility, APIs, integrations, automation, and custom software
- Partner with Integration Engineering on scalable, observable, resilient Finance and Quote-to-Cash integrations
- Own technical health and lifecycle of the Financial Systems portfolio
- Establish architecture reviews, technical standards, engineering metrics, and platform health reviews
- Represent Financial Systems Engineering in executive steering committees, governance forums, and program reviews
- Provide technical leadership across implementation partners and strategic vendors
- Partner with Finance, Accounting, FP&A, Procurement, Tax, Revenue, Product Engineering, Sales/GTM, Data, Security, AI & Automation, and Corporate Systems
- Balance transformation delivery with reliability, technical debt reduction, modernization, security, controls, and long-term investments
- Recruit, develop, and retain engineering talent
Requirements:
- 10+ years of progressively responsible experience across financial systems, enterprise application engineering, ERP, software engineering, systems architecture, or related technical disciplines
- 5+ years leading technical teams, including managing managers, senior engineers, architects, or other technical leaders
- Deep experience with NetSuite or comparable enterprise ERP platforms
- Experience leading a major ERP implementation, reimplementation, or transformation program from architecture and design through implementation, stabilization, and ongoing evolution
- Strong understanding of record-to-report, procure-to-pay, order-to-cash, billing, payments, financial planning, accounting, and revenue workflows
- Experience with Coupa, Planful, Stripe, ZoneBilling, Metronome, Avalara, or comparable technologies
- Experience with SaaS billing and monetization architectures, including subscription and usage-based or consumption-based models
- Strong systems thinking across ERP, CRM, product, billing, payments, integrations, data platforms, APIs, automation, and financial controls
- Experience defining technical strategy and architecture
- Experience with enterprise data architecture, including systems of record, data models, interfaces, contracts, quality, reconciliation, governance, lineage, and downstream consumption
- Experience partnering with Data Engineering or Analytics organizations and integrating operational systems with Databricks, Snowflake, or similar technologies
- Experience establishing automated testing, CI/CD, source control, observability, release management, documentation, and operational readiness
- Understanding of LLMs, agents, and intelligent automation, with appropriate financial, security, and compliance risk management
- Strong understanding of financial controls, auditability, security, data integrity, and compliance
- Experience governing system integrators and technology vendors during large transformation programs
- Experience partnering with Product Managers and senior business leaders on roadmaps and investment decisions
- Ability to operate from executive steering committee discussions through detailed architecture reviews
- Ability to challenge legacy processes and architectures and lead significant technology and operating-model change
- Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills, executive presence, and ability to communicate complex technology decisions
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Finance, Business, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
