Job Description
Director of Client Accounting leading close, controls, and client accounting for Eightx’s fractional CFO and bookkeeping services. Supporting fast-growing eCommerce brands and agencies.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the accounting function supporting Eightx’s portfolio of bookkeeping and Fractional CFO clients
- Oversee month-end close and ensure books are closed accurately within two to ten business days after month end
- Review and sign off on close files, reconciliations, and working papers
- Set and enforce accounting standards and processes that withstand audit scrutiny
- Own accrual postings and investigate unusual balances, P&L variances, and financial anomalies
- Coordinate with tax accountants and CPA firms on year-end adjusting entries
- Oversee weekly bookkeeping quality and provide hands-on support when needed
- Design, create, and adjust charts of accounts using Xero, QuickBooks Online, and other platforms
- Manage multi-currency accounting, FX revaluations, and cross-currency reconciliations
- Reconcile Shopify, Amazon, and other eCommerce integrations to the general ledger
- Oversee accounts receivable and payable, manual journals, credit memos, inventory reconciliations, and year-end inventory adjustments
- Maintain consolidated budget and actuals-vs-budget reporting templates
- Troubleshoot complex accounting matters for team members and clients
- Serve as senior accounting point of contact for assigned clients and Fractional CFOs
- Respond to client queries and participate in client calls, preparing recap notes and action items
- Communicate outstanding items, open questions, and risks to stakeholders
- Ensure timely delivery of financial reports, working files, and supporting schedules
- Ensure compliance with sales tax, payroll, and corporate filings across applicable jurisdictions
- Research tax obligations such as EU VAT and UK/US sales tax
- Prepare and deliver weekly flash reports and monthly financial packages
- Review bookkeeper and accountant work, provide feedback, mentor team members, and drive process improvements
- Participate in team L10 meetings and flag blockers
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in bookkeeping and/or accounting
- At least 2 years in a Controller, Senior, or equivalent review/oversight capacity
- Strong proficiency in Xero
- Experience with QuickBooks Online strongly preferred
- Demonstrated experience with eCommerce accounting, including Shopify, Amazon Seller/Vendor, and multi-currency environments
- Solid understanding of accrual-basis accounting, including prepaids, accruals, deferred revenue, and FX revaluation
- Track record of reviewing others’ work and owning close quality and financial accuracy
- Ability to investigate and explain financial anomalies using independent judgment and structured reasoning
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English, including direct client correspondence
- Self-motivated and highly organized; able to manage multiple clients, deadlines, and team members simultaneously
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with evolving processes and occasional ambiguity
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Availability to work 10:00 AM–6:00 PM PST or 1:00 PM–9:00 PM EST, Monday–Friday, with some flexibility for client needs
- CPA or CA qualification from India, the United States, Canada, or the United Kingdom strongly preferred
- Experience with Hubdoc, Dext, or Rippling
- Prior experience in public practice or audit
