Job Description

Director of Finance managing financial operations and workflows for Chartwell Law. Overseeing all accounting processes, ensuring compliance, and supporting firm growth with technological improvements.

Responsibilities:

  • The Director of Finance serves as both an operational finance leader and the firm's primary subject matter expert for financial systems, workflows, and accounting processes.
  • Ensure that financial operations, technology, and internal controls work together effectively to support the firm's continued growth and operational excellence.
  • Accounting Operations – Act as the primary resource for accounting workflows, system functionality, financial data, transaction processing.
  • Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, expense reimbursements, trust accounting, cash application, and account reconciliations.
  • Manage the monthly close process and maintain accounting policies, procedures, internal controls.
  • Oversee accounts payable function, ensuring compliance with firm policies, and review escalated reimbursement issues.
  • Manage the corporate credit card program.
  • Review semi-monthly payroll and oversee client trust accounting activities.
  • Manage annual renewal requirements for business licenses, registrations, and other filings.
  • Serve as administrator for the firm’s online banking platforms and manage treasury functions.
  • Evaluate and improve accounting workflows, implement new technologies, create standard operating procedures and training materials.
  • Directly manage team members, establish performance expectations, and promote accountability.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • 10+ years of related accounting experience in a mid to large company, with at least 5 years in a management role.
  • Law firm experience required
  • Aderant, or similar experience required
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting operations
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong, working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Experience managing month-end close and financial reporting processes
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with people at all organizational levels
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
