Job Description

Forensic Mechanical Engineer investigating mechanical system failures for J.S. Held consulting firm. Performing field investigations and providing expert consultation with engineering expertise.

Responsibilities:

  • Investigate the cause and origin of failures, damages, or defects in mechanical systems
  • Analyze failure of mechanical systems and evaluate quality of construction
  • Perform field investigations and lead examinations of damaged properties
  • Research failure modes and provide recommendations for repairs
  • Prepare accurate reports for clients detailing opinions and conclusions
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams on assignments
  • Maintain relationships with clients and consultants

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 3–5 years of mechanical engineering experience within insurance or legal forensics
  • Active Professional Engineering (PE) license
  • Willingness to participate in expert witness work
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer skills (including Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Flexible to travel approximately 30–50%
