Job Description

Forensic Mechanical Engineer conducting investigations and analysis for mechanical failures at J.S. Held. Collaborating on complex technical matters in various property and equipment settings.

Responsibilities:

  • Investigate the cause and origin of failures, damages, or defects in mechanical systems
  • Analyze the failure of mechanical systems and determine the cause
  • Perform field investigations and documentation of damaged property
  • Research failure modes and provide recommendations for repair
  • Prepare accurate and clear reports for clients
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams on large assignments

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of mechanical engineering experience within insurance or legal forensics
  • Active Professional Engineering (PE) license
  • Willingness to participate in expert witness work
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer skills (including Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Must be flexible to travel 30–50% of the time
