Job Description
Freelance Social Video Producer at Capital B, producing compelling social-first videos from journalism. Collaborating with editors and reporters to create engaging content for platforms like TikTok and Instagram.
Responsibilities:
- Pitch timely story ideas informed by Capital B's reporting, breaking news, and conversations happening in Black communities
- Identify reporting that can be adapted into compelling, social-first storytelling
- Research, report, and fact-check stories using reliable sources
- Write concise, engaging scripts optimized for short-form video
- Develop creative approaches that make nuanced reporting accessible without sacrificing accuracy
- Gather visuals, reporting, archival material, and supporting assets for production
- Partner closely with a freelance video editor, providing editorial guidance throughout the production process
- Ensure every video meets Capital B's standards for accuracy, sourcing, fairness, and platform best practices
- Stay ahead of news, internet culture, and platform trends to identify opportunities for new storytelling formats
Requirements:
- 2–4 years of experience producing digital journalism, social video, or editorial content
- Strong editorial judgment and news instincts
- Excellent writing skills, with experience scripting short-form video
- Experience researching, fact-checking, and synthesizing information from multiple sources
- A strong understanding of TikTok, Instagram, YouTube Shorts, and emerging platforms
- Familiarity with Adobe Premiere Pro and Canva
