Job Description
Intermediate Australian Tax Accountant supporting an Australia-based boutique accounting practice. Handling Australian tax compliance, SMSF work, reconciliations, bookkeeping, and client reporting.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual compliance requirements for all client types
- Prepare Activity Statements, annual STP reconciliation and reporting, TPAR reports, FBT returns, income tax returns, and financial statements
- Review Div 7A loans, prepare loan documents, calculate minimum repayments and interest, and complete dividend statements
- Review trust distribution minutes to assist with finalization
- Complete SMSF compliance requirements, including transfer balance reporting, financial statements, income tax returns, Activity Statements, and annual pension reviews
- Review fund documents and flag required updates to permanent items such as Binding Death Benefit nominations and Fund Investment Strategies
- Code and process client transactions using cloud-based accounting software such as Xero and MYOB
- Perform bank, credit card, loan, and GST reconciliations
- Assist with payroll reconciliations, PAYG withholding, and superannuation compliance
- Support senior team members with year-end workpapers and review checklists
- Maintain accurate client records and file relevant documentation
- Assist with ATO lodgments and correspondence
- Stay current with tax and accounting standards
- Assist with workflow tracking and time entry to meet billing and productivity targets
- Collaborate with team members and uphold professional standards
- Support bookkeeping staff with data entry, reconciliations, and Activity Statement preparation
- Contribute to social media content, the company Accounting Blog, and process improvement
- Take responsibility for learning and development with feedback and mentoring
- Monitor client workflows, prioritize tasks, and manage deadlines
- Perform ad hoc work as required by partners or clients
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, commerce or a related field
- CPA/CA/IPA qualification (not essential)
- Previous experience working in accounting with a specific focus on Australian taxation
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated high level of attention to detail
- Strong organizational and time management abilities
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism
- Problem-solving mindset and ability to work autonomously as well as actively as part of a team
- Advanced understanding of Australian accounting processes, systems and workflow processes
- Previous exposure to accounting practice management software
- High level proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and small business accounting software such as MYOB, Xero, and QuickBooks
- Demonstrated willingness to adapt to modernized technologies when upgrades are identified and implemented
- Some understanding of ATO and ASIC reporting software and requirements
- Team-focused with a proactive and collaborative attitude
- Work From Home in the Philippines, specifically Ortigas, Alabang, Pampanga, or Cebu
- Availability to work 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM AEST / 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM Philippine Time
