Job Description

Lead Solutions Design Engineer designing and optimizing Ryder’s supply-chain transportation and warehouse solutions with SIMIO. Supporting proposals, customer pursuits, and startup transitions.

Responsibilities:

  • Support growth of Supply Chain Solutions and Dedicated Transportation Solution offerings by developing, designing, and winning new business
  • Design solutions that deliver financial value to customers and align with customer needs and Ryder's operational and technical capabilities
  • Demonstrate understanding of customers' businesses and develop feasible, sustainable designs
  • Support pursuit teams with win-plan shaping and participate throughout pursuits from start to successful startup transition
  • Review RFP documents, understand objectives, identify gaps, develop clarifying questions, and create solution-design hypotheses
  • Validate, cleanse, and profile data; develop baselines and define modeling scenarios
  • Calculate labor, equipment, facility, and expense requirements based on transportation and warehousing assumptions
  • Develop process flows, concepts of operations, value propositions, systems concepts, cost models, pricing models, and assumptions
  • Develop optimization scenarios and strategies aligned with objectives
  • Meet frequently with customers and cross-functional bid-response teams
  • Support technical review presentations and design-validation meetings
  • Follow up on implementation by validating and modifying deployed processes to match the plan
  • Develop and improve engineering tools and methodologies according to industry best practices
  • Lead consulting projects by understanding customer pain points and developing and presenting solutions
  • Manage or mentor a small team of Solutions Design Engineers
  • Write and deliver compelling proposals that influence customer selection of Ryder
  • Support awarded business through startup and transition design and proposal assumptions to Operations and SCE CI resources

Requirements:

  • Simio experience REQUIRED
  • Bachelor's degree required in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain Management or Industrial Engineering
  • Six (6) years or more in the Transportation industry required
  • Six (6) years or more in the Warehousing and/or Manufacturing industry required
  • Superb data organization and cleansing skills
  • Advanced skills using design applications, tools, techniques, and methodologies to analyze and design complex transportation and warehousing networks
  • Familiarity with simulation tools, transportation and warehouse management systems, ERPs, automation, MHE, visibility tools, and industry-leading technologies preferred
  • Ability to influence project teams using facts, statistics, and analytics
  • Ability to comprehend complex supply chain and transportation solutions and segment design processes into manageable elements and process steps
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Ability to create and maintain professional relationships within all levels of the organization
  • Expert Microsoft Office Suite skills, especially Access, Excel, and PowerPoint, required
  • Intermediate visualization (Tableau, Microsoft) and database programming knowledge preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of effective metrics programs and sustainable, measurable network design required
  • Extensive knowledge of Dedicated Services and Managed Transportation Networks
  • Required knowledge of available equipment types, including dry van, temperature control, flat bed, and specialized equipment
  • Expert transportation design tools knowledge, including JDA, Appian, Llamasoft, JDA, OTM, and Tableau
  • Extensive knowledge of warehouse management operations, data analytics, industrial engineering, warehouse types, warehouse layout/design, and Lean methods
  • Required knowledge of material handling and automation solutions, including PIT applications, racking, storage solutions, packaging equipment, conveyor and sortation equipment, and AS/RS
  • Expert knowledge of warehouse design tools and systems, including CAD/AutoCAD, Slot3D, MOST, simulation software, Manhattan Scale, Labor Management Systems, Llamasoft, and Tableau
