Job Description
OBGYN medical coder supporting U.S. healthcare systems with professional fee and facility clinic and surgery coding. Reviewing records, abstracting data, and assigning ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 codes.
Responsibilities:
- Review medical records to identify pertinent diagnoses and procedures for patient healthcare encounters
- Abstract appropriate information from medical records according to client guidelines
- Query physicians for clarification of ambiguous or conflicting documentation
- Assign diagnostic and procedural codes using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 data sets
- Code professional fee and facility OBGYN clinic and surgery encounters, including office and surgical services
- Mentor training coders and/or new hires through education and training
- Maintain current knowledge of Coding Clinic, CPT Assistant, and Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting
- Contribute to coding education and participate in industry forums as applicable
- Maintain effective and professional communication and contribute to a positive company image
Requirements:
- Required certification: CPC, COC, CIC, CCA, CCS, CCS-P, RHIT, or RHIA
- At least 3 years of professional fee and facility coding experience
- Strong professional fee/facility OBGYN clinic and surgery coding skills, covering office and surgical services
- Productivity expectation of 10 records per hour
- Ability to code clinic E&M and CPTs
- Experience with EPIC, 3M, and 360
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, surgical technology, pharmacology, and disease processes
- Extensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding principles and guidelines
- Knowledge of reimbursement systems and federal, state, and payer-specific documentation, coding, and billing regulations and policies
- Must pass a coding proficiency test
