Job Description
Policy and Regulatory Affairs Manager advancing utility regulation and demand flexibility for EnergyHub, which turns smart devices into virtual power plants. Shaping U.S. policy, advocacy, and grid modernization strategy.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute regulatory and legislative engagement strategies for the central and eastern United States, focusing on Midwest markets
- Prioritize advocacy opportunities related to grid modernization, integrated resource planning, demand-side management, transportation electrification, energy storage, rate cases, legislation, and grant programs
- Research regulatory developments and identify ways to influence policy, rulemaking, and ratemaking
- Participate in integrated resource planning, VPP potential studies, and distribution system planning cycles
- Educate regulators and advocate for software and DERMS in demand flexibility programs and rates
- Engage state and local officials to advance policy objectives and build relationships with regulatory bodies
- Represent EnergyHub as a thought leader in electric vehicle program design and managed charging
- Represent EnergyHub as a thought leader in grid modernization and demand flexibility program design
- Harvest best practices from battery storage demand response programs
- Track national and state-level regulatory trends and brief senior leadership and internal stakeholders
- Work with trade associations, allies, and stakeholders to build consensus and develop advocacy campaigns and public relations strategies
- Lead cross-functional efforts evaluating new business models or program ideas
- Research regulatory topics such as performance-based ratemaking, software capitalization, technical resource manuals, and M&V protocols
- Foster relationships with trade associations and represent EnergyHub at industry conferences
- Create thought leadership materials, including blog posts and white papers, with Product Marketing
- Report to the Director of Regulatory Affairs and collaborate across the company
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- BA/BS with 5–10 years of work experience, including at least 3 years in the energy sector
- Familiarity with the electricity industry and utility business model
- Understanding of key industry trends and stakeholder landscape
- Experience with federal, statewide, and utility-led DER, demand-side management, or grid modernization initiatives
- Basic understanding of distribution system management
- Ability to draft and copy edit regulatory comments, media, blog, and customer-facing marketing and sales content
- Proven ability in in-depth energy policy analysis and regulatory writing
- Superb judgment and emotional intelligence
- Ability to resolve contentious issues and forge consensus among divergent views
- Experience using Excel, Salesforce, Tableau, or other software tools to analyze and visualize data
- Ability to leverage webinars and social media for thought leadership and policy perspectives
- No sponsorship of new applicants for employment authorization or other immigration-related support available
- Preferred: 7+ years of experience in the energy and utilities industry
- Preferred: Experience working at or closely with a state public utility commission, state legislature, or relevant regulatory body
- Preferred: Familiarity with energy efficiency and demand-side management technologies and regulations
- Preferred: Familiarity with utility programs and/or regulatory concepts
- Preferred: Deeper knowledge of how utilities serve their customers
- Preferred: Experience participating in utility stakeholder proceedings or working groups
- Preferred: Experience researching and analyzing market impacts of new policies, regulations, and program implementation rules
