Job Description

Principal Data Scientist governing responsible AI and generative AI at GDIT, a government technology services company. Building healthcare claims models to detect fraud, waste, and abuse.

Responsibilities:

  • Set modeling and validation standards for the Data Science team
  • Establish how models are documented, monitored, and checked for drift and bias
  • Review models before production and recommend required changes
  • Write and maintain responsible-AI and GenAI policy
  • Build and ship fraud, waste, and abuse models using healthcare claims data
  • Perform supervised risk scoring, large-scale feature engineering, and validation under class imbalance and shifting fraud schemes
  • Explain models, AI-assisted steps, validation results, and controls to HFPP Partners and internal auditors
  • Evaluate generative AI capabilities for healthcare fraud, waste, and abuse use cases
  • Decide which generative AI capabilities are suitable for piloting
  • Collaborate with Data Scientists, BI Developers, and FWA Subject Matter Experts
  • Serve as the governance point of contact across sub-teams
  • Work as a senior individual contributor with no direct reports

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in a quantitative field, or a Bachelor's in one of those fields with equivalent hands-on experience
  • 8+ years building, validating, and deploying ML models on real-world data
  • Track record of setting technical standards that other data scientists work against
  • Working knowledge of responsible-AI and model-risk practices, including documentation, monitoring, bias detection, and drift detection
  • Experience evaluating generative AI and LLM use cases for feasibility and risk
  • Competence in Python and SQL
  • 2+ years working with healthcare claims data
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare coding systems, including ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and DRG
  • Experience presenting technical and governance decisions to clients, partners, or auditors
  • Skills in AI Governance, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Generative AI
  • Graph or network analytics, entity resolution, or record linkage experience preferred
  • Experience piloting generative AI tools in regulated or high-scrutiny settings preferred
  • AWS and/or Snowflake environments, including Snowpark or model lifecycle tooling, preferred
  • Experience with payer coverage policy and industry claim edits preferred
  • US citizenship is not required
  • No security clearance required
