Job Description

QA Engineer building AI-driven automated and exploratory tests for CARTO’s cloud-native location intelligence platform. Validating spatial analytics, data flows, maps, and test coverage.

Responsibilities:

  • Build AI tooling that turns requirements, specs and tickets into test plans and executable test cases
  • Use AI agents to write, extend and repair automated tests, evaluating their correctness and coverage
  • Automate test execution with fast, reliable, diagnosable suites running on every change
  • Partner with Development and Product Management on quality, testing, and PR coverage
  • Convert manual test cases into automated tests and maintain an inventory of remaining manual coverage
  • Perform exploratory, visual, cartographic, and complex data-flow testing
  • Build test datasets, warehouse connections, and maps using multiple data sources
  • Validate spatial analytics output using spatial SQL

Requirements:

  • Hands-on use of AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, Copilot, or Cursor
  • Comfortable writing and debugging TypeScript or JavaScript
  • Experience with Playwright, Cypress, or a similar modern E2E framework
  • API testing experience
  • Experience working with SQL and validating data independently
  • Clear written communication in English
  • Experience building AI-driven test tooling, including agentic test generation, LLM-based assertions, self-healing selectors, or AI-assisted triage
  • Nice to have: experience testing GIS or mapping software
  • Nice to have: CI/CD pipelines, ideally GitHub Actions
  • Nice to have: BDD/TDD practice or Gherkin
  • Nice to have: querying BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks, or Redshift
  • 3+ years in QA or test automation on a real product
  • Track record of automating previously manual processes
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Geography, or a related field, or equivalent learned on the job
  • Autonomy, curiosity, eagerness to learn, and good energy
