Job Description
Regional aviation manager overseeing Northeast helicopter emergency medical services operations for Air Methods. Leading pilots, safety, training, compliance, and aircraft readiness.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee and support aviation operations throughout the Northeast region
- Maintain aircraft qualifications and operational currency while supporting frontline operations through occasional flight duty assignments
- Support the organization, direction, and administration of aviation activities and personnel
- Focus on regional safety and training
- Ensure operations comply with regulations, operations specifications, and the General Operations Manual
- Participate on Air Methods’ management team
- Research and report FRx budget/actual variances to the Director of Operations
- Ensure completion of aviation management tasks for base startup, closure, and movement
- Distribute and revise Operations Manual and Operations Specifications updates and complete Publications Verification Forms
- Manage aircraft integration, availability, and trained pilots for operational requirements
- Delegate aviation field logistical support to the Area Manager
- Attend or delegate fleet status teleconferences and monitor KPI Dashboard
- Coordinate pilot training with the Pilot Training team
- Coordinate safety issues with the Regional Safety Director and assist in eliminating unsafe behaviors
- Assist with aviation mishap investigations and root cause analyses
- Submit required flight personnel reporting to the Regional Aviation Director
- Monitor aviation personnel behavior and performance for policy compliance
- Ensure pilots use the 411 system
- Correct audit deficiencies and compliance issues
- Coordinate medical crewmember and communication specialist training and monitor CTS compliance
- Conduct Air Medical Resource Management training
- Ensure in-service training and accurate training records before returning backup aircraft to service
- Conduct or coordinate ferry and MOC flights
- Monitor and respond to AIDMOR submissions
- Coordinate correction of mechanical irregularities with Regional Maintenance leadership
- Complete initial GPS update subscriptions for assigned aircraft
- Act as on-scene representative for accidents and incidents
- Educate pilots on SMS and ASAP programs
- Directly supervise Aviation department employees, including hiring, training, work assignment, performance evaluation, discipline, and problem resolution
- Maintain flexible availability, including 24/7 operational requirements
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university and eight to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in aviation and air medical transports
- Minimum of 2,500 flight hours
- Two (2) years of experience in a Part 135 operation
- Airline Transport Pilot Certificate (Airplane or Rotorcraft)
- FAA Second Class Medical
- Intermediate Microsoft Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Professional demeanor and excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage and administer a broad range of tasks
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions consistent with essential job functions
- Ability to prepare written reports, correspondence, and presentations to senior leadership
- Proven leadership skills
- Ability to build and maintain positive internal and external relationships
- Ability to assess operations, maintenance, fuel quality, Communication Specialist personnel, and safety matters objectively
- Subject to DOT/FAA drug and/or alcohol testing requirements
