Job Description
Regional Aviation Manager overseeing Part 135 helicopter operations, pilots, safety, and training for Air Methods’ Northeast region. Maintaining aircraft readiness and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee and support aviation operations throughout the Northeast region
- Maintain aircraft qualifications and operational currency
- Support frontline operations through occasional flight duty assignments
- Direct and administer aviation activities and personnel within the assigned region
- Oversee safety and training and perform daily aviation duties
- Coordinate with field management, regional leadership, maintenance, and clinical teams
- Ensure regional operations comply with regulations, operations specifications, and the General Operations Manual
- Participate in Air Methods’ management team
- Research and report FRx budget/actual variances to the Director of Operations
- Manage aircraft integration, availability, and trained pilot coverage
- Delegate aviation field logistical support to the Area Manager
- Coordinate pilot training and crewmember/communication specialist training
- Address safety issues, assist with mishap investigations and root cause analysis
- Monitor aviation personnel performance, compliance, and required reporting
- Ensure audit deficiencies and compliance issues are corrected
- Coordinate backup aircraft training and return-to-service requirements
- Conduct or coordinate ferry and MOC flights
- Monitor and respond to AIDMOR submissions
- Coordinate correction of mechanical irregularities with regional maintenance leadership
- Act as on-scene representative for accidents/incidents
- Educate pilots on SMS and ASAP programs
- Directly supervise Aviation department employees, including hiring, training, work assignment, performance appraisal, discipline, and problem resolution
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university and eight to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in aviation and air medical transports
- Minimum of 2,500 flight hours
- Two (2) years of experience in a Part 135 operation
- Airline Transport Pilot Certificate (Airplane or Rotorcraft)
- FAA Second Class Medical
- Intermediate Microsoft Suite skills, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Professional demeanor and excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage and administer a broad range of tasks
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions consistent with essential job functions
- Ability to prepare written reports, correspondence, and presentations to senior leadership
- Proven leadership skills
- Ability to build and maintain positive internal and external relationships
- Ability to assess and evaluate operations, maintenance, fuel quality, Communication Specialist personnel, and safety matters objectively
- Ability to work a flexible schedule and be available 24/7 for operational requirements
- Subject to DOT/FAA drug and alcohol testing requirements
