Job Description

Senior Data Scientist supporting Maximus’s USSOCOM POTFF program. Applying machine learning and statistical analysis to improve SOF warriors’ and families’ well-being.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the USSOCOM Preservation of the Force and Family (POTFF) program by identifying and implementing innovative data-driven solutions across the Special Operations Forces enterprise
  • Improve the short- and long-term well-being of SOF warriors and their families through analytics and data solutions
  • Provide consultation and assistance to supported units and POTFF staff across all POTFF domains
  • Identify opportunities and methods for capturing data related to POTFF programs and initiatives
  • Interpret results using data aggregation, statistical analysis, data mining, and pattern recognition
  • Select features and construct and refine machine-learning classifiers
  • Serve as a data and analytics subject matter expert for analysts and operational stakeholders
  • Apply optimization, simulation, regression, decision trees, neural networks, cluster analysis, mixed models, and other decision technologies
  • Examine data, forecast trends, account for variability, and maintain reliable predictions
  • Expand and refine data collection procedures for robust analytical systems
  • Develop automated anomaly-detection systems and monitor model performance
  • Lead project management activities and facilitate team communication and strategy implementation
  • Track emerging technologies and systems relevant to Maximus initiatives
  • Execute additional Maximus strategic-interest initiatives

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience and 7+ years
  • BS, MS (preferred), or PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field
  • 7+ years of relevant professional experience in data analysis/science with heavy emphasis on data-driven decision making
  • Excellent understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms, including k-NN, Naive Bayes, SVM, and Decision Trees
  • Experience with common data science toolkits
  • Experience with data visualization tools
  • Advanced applied statistics skills, including distributions, statistical testing, and regression
  • Highly skilled in SQL and expert use of relational databases
  • Experience working with large data sets
  • Experience working with distributed or cloud computing tools is a plus
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or cooperatively in a technical team
  • Superior oral and written communication skills
  • Strong passion for empirical research and answering complex questions with data
  • Leadership in prioritizing projects and evaluating data analysis solutions
  • Experience working directly with business users and requirements documentation
  • Experience with solution/vendor evaluation and product ROI evaluation
  • Experience with government-sponsored health care programs and operations is desirable
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Active U.S. Government Secret security clearance required, or eligibility to obtain and maintain one as required for contract performance
