Job Description
Staff Data Scientist optimizing auction ranking, experimentation, and monetization for Nextdoor, the neighborhood social network. Driving advertiser value and revenue through machine learning and analytics.
Responsibilities:
- Drive revenue growth and advertiser value through the machine learning auction ads delivery layer
- Contribute to growing and improving Nextdoor’s core Ads products
- Shape ranking models and objective functions
- Establish an explainability layer for model feedback loops
- Perform auction measurement
- Drive the roadmap and explore applications for artificial intelligence and large language models
- Design and develop algorithms and models to optimize Ads Marketplace performance for end-users and advertisers
- Design and monitor efficient, accurate experiments, including post-release follow-ups
- Develop strategic insights through data analysis and evaluate the performance and impact of data-driven content
- Partner with Product, Design, Engineering, Marketing, Operations, Sales, and Finance
- Participate in in-person trainings, off-sites, volunteer days, and team-building exercises
- Build in-person relationships and contribute to company culture
Requirements:
- 7+ years of relevant Data Science experience
- Experience in Ads Marketplace and/or Monetization
- Experience architecting, debugging, and executing complex SQL queries
- Excellent knowledge of Python, including numpy, pandas, and scikit-learn
- Experience formulating, running, and sharing complex analyses, including different types of experiments, causal inference studies, and exploratory analysis
- Curiosity around finding meaningful insights that inform product and business strategies
- Eagerness to explore and apply AI and emerging technologies
- Bonus: Work experience related to social or community-based products
- Bonus: Work experience related to small businesses and marketplaces
- Bonus: Work experience related to advertising and auction systems
- Bonus: Experience with agentic coding platforms such as Cursor or Windsurf
