Job Description
Senior Data Scientist building AI learning tools and cloud data models for the Veterans Health Administration. Integrating VA systems and advancing responsible AI education across federal healthcare.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the end-to-end design, configuration, and continuous optimization of the VHA AI Education Hub platform
- Develop, configure, and maintain the AI learning assistant and sandbox environment
- Apply supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning techniques to healthcare-domain data models
- Work with synthetic data models and patient cohorts while protecting Veteran data privacy
- Architect and manage integrations with VA learning management systems, intranet platforms, and enterprise data environments
- Design, analyze, and validate healthcare-specific data models in cloud-based analytic environments
- Apply best practices for data quality, lineage, and governance
- Collaborate with VA stakeholders, contracting officers, and cross-functional technical teams
- Translate program requirements into actionable data science deliverables
- Author technical documentation
- Present findings and platform performance metrics to government leadership
Requirements:
- Minimum 8 years of professional experience in data science, machine learning, or a closely related quantitative discipline
- Master's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field from an accredited institution required
- Experience applying machine learning techniques in complex, data-rich environments
- Prior experience supporting federal government agencies or large healthcare organizations
- Working knowledge of federal IT policies, data governance frameworks, and health data standards such as HL7 and FHIR
- Ability to obtain and maintain a VA Position of Public Trust clearance (Tier 2 / MBI)
- Must be authorized to work in the United States; this position does not offer visa sponsorship
- Hands-on experience with cloud-based analytic platforms such as AWS GovCloud or Microsoft Azure Government
- Experience deploying machine learning models, managing synthetic data environments, and configuring platform integrations in secured, policy-governed cloud settings
- Experience with supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning techniques
- Ability to work with healthcare data models, synthetic data, patient cohorts, data quality, data lineage, and data governance
