Job Description

Senior Engineering Manager leading Pleo's real-time fraud and risk decisioning platform. Scaling machine learning, decisioning, and risk engineering teams at spend-management company Pleo.

Responsibilities:

  • Own delivery, quality, and technical direction of Pleo's fraud and risk decisioning platform
  • Own the health and velocity of the engineering team or teams
  • Set the technical vision for fast, accurate, explainable, data- and ML-driven fraud detection and prevention
  • Build a focused, high-performing team with clear ownership, priorities, and engineering culture
  • Directly manage, mentor, and grow engineers and tech leads
  • Set competency expectations and individual growth paths
  • Establish standards and accountability for safe, verifiable, auditable, and explainable AI-assisted work
  • Partner with Compliance, Risk, and Security leadership
  • Grow Decision Intelligence into multiple teams and define future specialist roles
  • Report to the Director of Engineering for Payments
  • Work closely with the Product Manager for Decision Intelligence and fraud, security, compliance, risk, payments, and platform teams
  • Establish ownership, priorities, delivery culture, and cross-functional relationships during the first six months
  • Contribute to fraud-platform direction and future hiring

Requirements:

  • Track record of leading and growing engineering teams as an Engineering Manager or Senior Engineering Manager
  • Experience owning delivery health and people development
  • Domain judgment in fraud, risk, financial crime, trust & safety, or another real-time, high-stakes decisioning domain
  • Understanding of latency budgets, false-positive/false-negative trade-offs, adversarial change, and regulatory requirements
  • Technical depth in data pipelines, model-driven decisioning, clean data, graph and ML infrastructure, streaming and batch architectures, and MLOps
  • Sound build-vs-buy judgment for high-stakes, regulated systems
  • Passion for people management and coaching
  • High proficiency with AI-enhanced development tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude
  • Experience championing AI-native ways of working
  • Willingness to deepen AI fluency
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills
