Job Description

Senior Financial Analyst providing financial and compliance analysis along with post-award administrative support to College of Science principal investigators. Working primarily with budgets and funding portfolios.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze principal investigators research funding portfolio, including discretionary funding sources, to assist principal investigators in resource and personnel allocation planning
  • Generate monthly financial and payroll reports for PI reconciliation
  • Partner with PIs to develop comprehensive financial projections of future expenditures including burn rate and personnel forecasts
  • Make recommendations to PIs as necessary based on analysis of budget and current expenditures
  • Analyze financial and payroll discrepancies to ensure timely corrections
  • Analyze PIs' research funding portfolio to ensure continued compliance with uniform guidance, sponsor, and university regulations
  • Provide guidance to PIs on cost allowability based on analysis of award terms and conditions
  • Review project expenditures, cost transfers, and payroll expenses to ensure proper allocation in accordance with all applicable regulations
  • Analyze project budget and actual expenditures for compliance with sponsor specific regulations and make necessary recommendations to PI based on findings
  • Analyze student effort allocations on a semester basis to ensure compliance with terms & conditions of the award and budget
  • Ensure that the project records (NOGA, Amendments, correspondence, etc.) are kept in good order and filed electronically readily available for review and audit
  • Assist PIs with submitting all grant related transactions including but not limited to no-cost extensions, rebudgets, effort reductions, carryovers, advance account requests, closeouts and ad hoc financial reports to sponsors
  • Assist PIs with all administrative aspects of an award
  • Ensure grant transactions are routed through the appropriate offices and processed in a timely manner
  • Work with NU-RES to ensure new awards are properly set up in Banner and added to the PI’s portfolio
  • Work with PI and Department Business Manager to clear the deficit accounts
  • Assist supervisor with analyzing processes to improve workflow and work efficiencies
  • Assist in developing new financial analysis and reporting capabilities for faculty portfolios
  • Assist less experienced analysts with complex post award scenarios
  • Lead team trainings and utilize expertise to mentor new analysts

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Finance or similar major preferred)
  • Minimum of 4 years of professional work experience in higher education and/or business setting
  • Accounting and finance knowledge and ability to work with budgets required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong organizational, prioritization and time management skills
  • Strong attention to detail, customer service skills, initiative, flexibility, and the ability to work independently and as a member of a team are required
  • Familiarity with overall federal grant administration is desired
