Job Description
Senior PHP and Laravel developer building VoIP, telecom, and hospitality web applications for OutForce clients. Developing APIs, portals, integrations, and modernizing legacy PHP systems.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain new and existing web applications and APIs in the VoIP/Telco industry
- Develop software for a partner company in the Food & Hospitality industry
- Create front-end HTML, CSS and JavaScript and high-quality back-end PHP code
- Maintain vanilla PHP applications without a framework
- Develop Laravel and modern front-end applications using React, Vue.js or similar frameworks
- Migrate legacy code from PHP 5.4 to PHP 8+
- Perform approximately a 50/50 split between back-end and front-end development
- Develop with jQuery, vanilla JavaScript and modern JavaScript frameworks
- Write efficient MySQL queries and work with large datasets
- Support and develop PHP APIs for customers and resellers
- Develop integrations with external APIs and third-party services
- Contribute to customer-facing websites and account portals
- Update and improve administration portals for managing clients, services and support tickets
- Develop features across administration, reseller and customer portals
- Develop and maintain point-of-sale software
- Develop payment integrations
- Use AI-assisted development tools for development, debugging, refactoring, testing and documentation
- Use AI coding agents while reviewing and validating generated code before merging or deployment
- Investigate unfamiliar codebases and bugs using AI without sacrificing code quality
- Liaise with team members and customers
- Investigate and fix bugs
- Perform other duties as required
Requirements:
- Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken
- Strong PHP knowledge, including legacy PHP and modern PHP 7/8+
- Experience with Laravel or another modern PHP framework
- Strong MySQL knowledge, including writing efficient queries for large datasets
- Strong HTML, CSS and JavaScript knowledge
- Strong jQuery knowledge and experience maintaining existing jQuery-based applications
- Experience with React, Vue.js or a similar modern JavaScript framework
- Experience building and consuming REST APIs and integrating with third-party APIs
- Experience with Git or similar version control systems
- Comfortable working with Linux servers and command-line tools such as SSH/PuTTY, Git and common Linux utilities
- Continuous Integration (CI) experience
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude, ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot or similar
- Ability to write effective prompts and provide AI tools with appropriate codebase context, requirements and constraints
- Ability to critically review AI-generated code
- Understanding of appropriate uses of AI-assisted development and when manual investigation, debugging and engineering judgement are required
- Ability to communicate clearly, work independently, think critically and solve problems without constant direction
- 8+ years of professional software development experience
- Applicants must provide a portfolio or examples of previous development work
- Portfolio should include web applications, APIs, portals or other personally completed software work
- Portfolio should include PHP and JavaScript code samples
- Examples of Laravel, React, Vue.js or similar framework experience
- Repository links where possible, such as GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket
- Description of personal contributions for private or commercial projects
- Screenshots, live application links or demonstrations where appropriate
