Job Description
Senior Manager leading healthcare data migration and ETL engineering at athenahealth. Overseeing Python automation, interoperability, EHI exports, delivery reliability, and team development.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop a team of data engineers responsible for ETL workflows moving data into athenahealth environments
- Provide technical direction for Python-based tools, utilities, and automation supporting import, migration, validation, reconciliation, and troubleshooting
- Define source-to-target mappings, business rules, migration requirements, and technical approaches with internal stakeholders
- Review inbound and outbound data flows to identify gaps, defects, transformation issues, and improvement opportunities
- Oversee interoperability workflows using HL7 and FHIR standards
- Support EHI export activities and ensure outputs are complete, accurate, and compliant
- Investigate complex data issues, remove blockers, and drive cross-functional resolution
- Establish and maintain technical documentation for processes, dependencies, standards, validation, and operations
- Use AI to improve productivity while ensuring human review validates output accuracy and appropriateness
- Coach, mentor, and support team members through technical guidance, feedback, and career development
- Drive scalable, reliable, and repeatable migration process improvements
- Support testing and validation strategies for import and export processes
- Participate in planning, prioritization, status reviews, and issue triage
- Maintain reusable tools, templates, and engineering standards
- Coordinate timelines, dependencies, and delivery expectations across product, implementation, operations, and engineering
- Reduce manual effort through automation and improved process design
- Contribute to capacity management and work intake prioritization
- Build an operational nerve center to improve project visibility, accountability, reporting, and escalation handling
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 7+ years of experience in data engineering, ETL, data migration, or a related technical discipline
- 2+ years of experience leading engineers, mentoring technical staff, or managing technical projects or teams
- Experience with ETL, SQL, and Python
- Experience supporting data imports, conversions, migrations, or similar data movement work
- Familiarity with HL7 and FHIR interoperability standards
- Experience with EHI Export or related healthcare data export workflows preferred
- Experience with healthcare data, healthcare technology, or implementation-focused teams preferred
- Ability to analyze data, identify issues, and communicate technical results clearly
- Strong problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work effectively in a remote, cross-functional environment
