Job Description
Senior Software Engineer building scalable healthcare applications for Highmark Health. Designing, coding, reviewing, and deploying enterprise software across digital channels using Agile Scrum.
Responsibilities:
- Design and create engineering specifications for software applications and programs
- Design and write code adhering to coding standards
- Perform code reviews
- Generate ideas, explore and implement technical solutions for product features
- Monitor technical progress against project plans while safeguarding functionality, scalability, and performance
- Participate in Scrum ceremonies, sprint planning, and software development through final execution
- Communicate issues and blockers to the Scrum Master
- Drive story creation, including Definition of Done, acceptance criteria, and estimation
- Create tasks in applicable software such as RTC or Jira and update status and assignments
- Monitor work against production schedules and provide progress updates
- Report issues and technical difficulties to lead developers
- Mentor associate and intermediate software engineers as needed
- Build scalable software applications across digital channels serving customers
- Contribute across the application build process from idea generation and business analysis through technical design and development
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field
- 5 years of proficiency in designing and analyzing algorithms, data structures, and design patterns for scalable, highly available systems
- Experience with Java, Spring Boot, Web Services/REST API, Angular, Oracle and DB2 databases, SQL, Kafka, Red Hat/DMN rules engine, GIT, and GCP preferred
- 7 years working with varied technology systems, designing solutions, or developing healthcare applications preferred
- 5 years translating design mockups, prototypes, and user stories into working applications preferred
- 5 years producing fault-tolerant, efficient, and maintainable code preferred
- 1 year working with Machine Learning, especially Natural Language Understanding, Machine Translation, Deep Neural Networks, and related fields preferred
- Experience with Agile Scrum methodology
- Knowledge of professional software engineering practices across the full software development life cycle
- Knowledge of coding standards, unit testing, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
- Strong track record designing and implementing large-scale consumer-facing applications
- Interest and ability to learn other programming languages as needed
- Experience and willingness to mentor junior engineers
- Ability to comply with HIPAA, data security guidelines, privacy policies, the Code of Business Conduct, applicable laws, and training requirements
- No required licenses or certifications
- Travel requirement: 0%–25%
