Job Description

Senior Staff Accountant overseeing GAAP accounting, tuition revenue, reconciliations, and financial reporting. Supporting close, audits, budgeting, and junior accountant development.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and review daily posting of transactional activity to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Manage and record tuition and fee transactions in accordance with institutional policies and accounting standards
  • Prepare, review, and analyze general ledger entries, ensuring appropriate classification and compliance with GAAP
  • Develop and maintain detailed balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules, investigating and resolving variances
  • Prepare financial reports and perform analytical reviews to identify trends, discrepancies, and areas of concern
  • Exercise independent judgment in evaluating financial transactions and determining proper accounting treatment
  • Lead or significantly contribute to the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate completion
  • Review accounting transactions performed by others to ensure accuracy and adherence to policies
  • Assist with audits, compliance requirements, and regulatory reporting by providing analysis and supporting documentation
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities through financial analysis and insights
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior accounting staff, supporting professional development and adherence to best practices
  • Recommend and implement process improvements to strengthen controls, efficiency, and reporting accuracy
  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and ethical judgment in financial activities
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial and organizational information
  • Identify issues, analyze root causes, and implement solutions
  • Manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to support organizational objectives and financial reporting accuracy

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field required
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting practices
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze financial data, apply accounting principles, and exercise independent judgment
  • Experience with general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and month-end close processes
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
