Job Description
Regulatory SHE Solicitor handling contentious and non-contentious health, safety and environmental matters. Advising clients through investigations, prosecutions, inquests and compliance issues.
Responsibilities:
- Advise individuals and organisations facing criminal investigations for corporate manslaughter, gross negligence manslaughter and breaches of health and safety, fire safety, food safety and environmental law
- Advise on product safety and provide advice and representations to clients involved in inquests and Public Inquiries
- Work on a busy and varied caseload encompassing contentious and non-contentious regulatory issues
- Act as a client point of contact in accordance with client protocols
- Assist with business development activities, including pitches, presentations and training events
- Manage files in line with firm and client protocols, including billing, credit control, WIP, file closures and management information
- Assume responsibility for quality control and benchmark compliance on own caseload
- Maintain knowledge of other practice areas and an active internal network
- Develop technical knowledge through training, publications and Law Society CPD
Requirements:
- At least 5 years PQE with experience gained within a regulatory and/or commercially focused environment, in private practice or elsewhere
- Experience advising on regulatory work including HSE/Police investigations, witness interviews, interviews under caution, prosecutions, sentencing hearings and inquests
- Experience in vehicle operator licence issues, environmental breaches, trading standards, product safety, food safety and fire safety would be beneficial
- Experience of business development and building client relationships
- Willingness to travel at short notice to assist clients on the ground
- Driving licence essential
- Excellent legal drafting, analytical and technical skills
- Ability to meet and exceed budgetary requirements in terms of time and fee income
