Job Description
Staff Software Engineer scaling Modern Health's Python backend systems for client launches and member access. Leading architecture, growth initiatives, and cross-functional delivery across US-eligible remote locations.
Responsibilities:
- Independently own and execute large-scale engineering projects across eligibility processing, identity, and client configuration systems
- Design and build scalable backend architectures to support 50x data growth across Modern Health's platform
- Partner with product managers and internal operations teams to define requirements, use cases, and edge cases for complex initiatives
- Collaborate with a senior staff engineer to sequence and deliver against a multi-year growth engineering roadmap
- Mentor and guide more junior engineers through technical leadership and code collaboration
- Own and scale critical backend systems powering client launches and member access
Requirements:
- 8+ years of experience in backend software engineering
- 8–15 years of experience in backend software engineering, with focus on Python (Django/Flask); staff-leveling
- Experience leading complex, full-stack projects end-to-end independently
- Experience designing scalable architectures handling large data growth (e.g., 50x)
- Experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL)
- Strong cross-functional collaboration with product and operations stakeholders
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Open to bootcamps and self-taught candidates
- Remote work eligibility within the US, excluding Hawaii
