Job Description
Technical Implementation Consultant configuring data models and analytics platforms for colleges and universities. Leading discovery, validation, stakeholder training, and implementation delivery.
Responsibilities:
- Lead discovery sessions with client functional offices, including institutional research, registrar, admissions, student accounts, financial aid, budget, academic affairs, and others
- Understand institutional operations, including exceptions and local practices
- Own and document configuration decisions for client data models, including field and code mappings, cohort and population definitions, and calculation rules
- Resolve definitional questions about institutional metrics and populations
- Define configurations controlling source-data transformation and parameterization, and communicate them to data engineers
- Partner with institutional stakeholders to align methodology with budgeting and reporting practices
- Deploy and configure Tableau workbooks or Power BI reports
- Run validation cycles with client stakeholders, document feedback, and drive issues to resolution before go-live
- Investigate validation discrepancies and trace them to root causes
- Provide post-implementation validation and investigation support to client-facing teams
- Document client-specific business rules and configuration decisions
- Support implementation handoff documentation
- Provide implementation feedback and documentation for new products after launch
- Escalate common implementation hurdles to the product team for product enhancement
- Advise on data definitions and functional client use cases to inform technical development
- Help facilitate power user training sessions with the Data Analyst team during implementation go-live
- Travel to client or partner institution sites as needed, no more than 10%
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning
- 3+ years working with higher education institutional data
- Deep working knowledge of at least one functional area of higher education
- Familiarity with the data structures behind at least one major Student Information System: Ellucian Banner, PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, Ellucian Colleague, or Workday Student
- Working knowledge of standardized institutional reporting such as IPEDS
- Foundational knowledge of SQL
- Understanding of how institutional data moves between systems, including where it originates and how it is transformed
- Comfort working in Tableau, Power BI, or a comparable data visualization tool
- Strong Excel skills for data manipulation and reconciliation
- Experience leading working sessions with stakeholders and turning discussions into clear, actionable requirements
- Excellent communication skills, including communicating complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders
- Proven ability to manage multiple client projects with competing priorities and tight deadlines
- Strong problem-solving skills and persistence to investigate unreconciled numbers
- US East Coast working hours are required
- Ability to travel to client/partner institution sites as needed, no more than 10%
- Nice to have: deeper SQL, including complex joins and window functions
- Nice to have: cloud data warehousing with Amazon Redshift, Snowflake, or BigQuery
- Nice to have: ETL processes or data pipeline configuration
- Nice to have: instructional cost studies, program viability analysis, or activity-based costing in higher education
- Nice to have: quality assurance or user acceptance testing of data sets
- Nice to have: Confluence, Jira, Smartsheet, Trello, or similar tools
- Nice to have: experience with similar SaaS products serving higher education
